Study Tips That Will Help You Ace A Series Of Tests

Education & Development Blog

Taking full-time classes at your local community college will require you to study independently for each course that you will be tested on. Instead of waiting until the night before a test to take the time to study the material that you need to know, use some test prep strategies that involve remaining organized and allotting adequate time for each study session.

Weigh The Importance Of The Material

Use a notebook to jot down the dates and the times of each upcoming test. Do not treat each subject equally, especially if you are fairly knowledgeable in one course, but are having many more difficulties in some of the others. Determine how much material you will be tested on in each class and coordinate your testing schedule and free time sessions with the time that you will designate for each study period.

For instance, if you are presented with a future unit test that will encompass several chapters of material and will also be faced with a brief test that will determine how much you have retained about a small series of events or a single chapter, prepare for the test that involves more studying first. Set aside a longer block of time to prepare for the most lengthy test and use smaller blocks of time to review material for shorter tests.

Use Diagrams And Old Quizzes And Tests

Diagrams will help you visualize a particular concept. Upon studying a diagram, you may be able to pull the information from your memory and apply it to a series of questions that need to be answered on a test. Use visual diagrams that are in your textbooks or create custom diagrams that you design with the aid of your notes. Highlight keywords, phrases, and numerical codes that you will need to know on the day of a test.

Look through old quizzes and tests that you previously took in each class. Review each graded item and pick out questions or problems that you previously answered or solved properly. Avoid looking at the answers or solutions that you provided. Use a piece of paper to cover these sections up.

If you are certain that a lot of the material that you previously were quizzed or tested on will appear on a future test, attempt to answer or solve the questions and problems that you have picked out. Compare your answers with the ones that are printed on your graded papers.
